The Day Our World Turned Pink: Magmay Books - The Heartwarming Story Behind the Creation of Pink Patsy

Magmay Books, a mother-daughter team, stepped into the children's book world on the 27th of April 2021. Margaret KM Andrews and her daughter Wendy Gallagher ventured into storytelling, illustrating and self-publishing during the pandemic, igniting a creative spark that has since enchanted kids, parents, and educators alike.

The journey of Magmay Books commenced when Margaret, an 81-year-old artist, found herself unable to attend her art group due to the pandemic. Undeterred, she continued painting, and her illustrations of a pink hare gazing at the moon resonated deeply with audiences on Facebook. Thus, Pink Patsy was born, evolving from a beloved painting into the main character of a heartwarming picture book.

Drawing inspiration from their own lives, the characters in the Pink Patsy books are imbued with personal connections. Tiger, the beautiful silver tabby cat, finds his origins in Wendy's own cherished feline companion, while Bird, the adventurous green-cheeked conure parrot, was inspired by a memorable incident involving Wendy's daughter Jessie and a mischievous bird. Margaret's artistic vision skillfully weaves these personal anecdotes into the fabric of the enchanting storylines.

The books, tailored for children aged 3-6, carry profound messages of compassion and environmental responsibility. Wendy, who dealt with dyslexia as a child, fills the books with reader-friendly features, ensuring accessibility for young readers. Vibrant illustrations, engaging narratives, and a touch of timeless charm evoke the beauty of classic, hand-painted artwork, making the Pink Patsy series a captivating literary experience for Key Stage One children.

With nine books already published and the tenth in the making, along with the introduction of a new character, Bobby Blue, joining the ranks alongside Pink Patsy and her friends, Margaret and Wendy's creative journey shows no signs of slowing down. Their dream of animation is now becoming a reality, as they are halfway through the production of the first story of the Rainbow.

The Pink Patsy books have touched readers' hearts with their captivating artwork, imaginative storytelling, and invaluable life lessons. With Margaret and Wendy's unwavering dedication and mutual admiration guiding them, Magmay Books is poised to inspire and delight children for future generations.

Margaret and Wendy opened the first box of Pink Patsy and the Moon books delivered on the 27th of April 2021.

The name "Magmay Books" holds sentimental significance, derived from Margaret's childhood nickname, "Maggie May," and inspired by the bond between a mother and daughter. Symbolised by the logo of two birds—one larger, one smaller—the name encapsulates the nurturing relationship between generations. Their shared passion for art and nature blossomed during walks over the Dollis Valley Green Walk, laying the foundation for their creative endeavours. This heartwarming story of familial connection and artistic inspiration is woven into the very fabric of Magmay Books.
